Saturday4Arts

Musical instruction helps youth in so many ways.

Our piano and guitar instrument program is designed to bring immigrant families together to appreciate the arts and gain life skills. It teaches them coordination, reading comprehension and emotional expression.

Our Saturday4Arts program offers piano and guitar instruction for children between the ages of 9 and 17 under the direction of professional musical teachers.

The 10-week program also focuses on building life skills. Emphasis is placed on raising self-esteem and improving social skills of each participant, as well as building an understanding of dangerous behaviors, including the use of drugs, alcohol, and tobacco products.

The program doesn’t just address the needs of youth people.

Parents of participants take educational classes to increase their knowledge of how best to communicate appropriately with their children and how to gain basic skills in running a household and providing for their families.

Saturday4Arts runs four times a year. During each cycle, youth receive three hours of music instruction and one-hour of life skills training. They also get to participate in a musical recital where they perform individually and as a group in front of their families, friends and peers.

The program has been generously supported by the Children’s Trust since 2005.
